End of Year De-brief to Self
Now is the time to have a talk with yourself about your year. What were the highlights? What were the challenges? Did you have goals this year and how did you go rowing towards those? Are you being kind to yourself if you didn’t reach your goal and do you know why it wasn’t reached so you can adjust something? These are all good de-brief questions to help you ‘row rather than drift’ through each year. Goals are to serve you, not tyrannise you and they are to inspire, encourage and empower you to continue growing. Progress is fundamental need we all have.
What goals are you thinking of setting for next year? One of my goals for next year is to learn how to swim – yes, that’s right, I can’t swim. I am great at paddling and lying around in the water. I usually set goals in these simple categories:- Physical, spiritual, personal growth, financial, career and relational. I don’t push myself or beat myself up but it is nice to look back on each year and see progress.
Perth School – Sep/Oct
I had a fantastic time in Perth with these wonderful group of students. It was my second school in Perth and I hope to be there again next year at the earliest and in two years time at the latest. Keep the momentum going you team of truth lovers in W.A. Nearly everyone in the class was Dutch and I saw most of them as giants and they probably saw me as a midget! Thanks to the wonderful couple that hosted me too and made my stay so easy and enjoyable.
Brisbane School – register NOW – January 7th to 18th
The end of year has crept up on me quickly and it is time to register for the January school being held at Genesis Christian College in Warner, Brisbane. All details are on the ‘Coming Events’ page on my website. I have a NEW feature too. You can book and pay your deposit through the website. If you choose this method, you will get a reminder two days before the school (5th January) to pay the remainder of the fee. It is quick and simple so give it a try. Once I receive your registration and deposit I will email you your final information to get you prepared for the 7th January. So far, most of the students are coming from inter-state and internationally, so now is the time for the Brisbanites to jump in!
Saturday workshops and Counselling
This year I ran 3 Saturday Workshops and a creative friend worked hard on producing a lovely work book for the last workshop. I appreciate her support and help in continuing to improve the look of such powerful material. In 2019 I intend to run 3-4 more workshops and hope to record them for updated, downloadable resources. Being able to listen to the content several times is incredibly helpful in your rapid personal growth. The Workshops are also a very economical way to get a kick start and equipped with tools you can start implementing immediately. Because, my counselling load has increased and my waiting list has grown I think the Workshops are going to be a helpful option for many people.
I have been charging $90 for counselling for several years now and my waiting list is putting pressure on me to increase my fee. So, as from the 1st January the new price will be $100.
I would like to highly recommend two of my Australian colleagues as Counsellors to you. Firstly, Gina Dearman has been Counselling, using the Living Wisdom Modality for several years and I trust her work. She lives in Warner, north Brisbane area, and can be contacted by email. firstname.lastname@example.org Secondly, Peter Funke has just finished understudying with David Riddell but has been a trained Counsellor for several years also. He has opened his books and is based in Hervey Bay but offers phone and Skype counselling. Please take a couple of minutes to look through his website. www.libertycounsellingandtraining.com
Digital downloads and USB resources
As more and more of us say goodbye to CD’s I am working on having more digital downloads available and/or USB. A brand new resource is the Saturday Workshop I did in Perth this October – Teaching Your Mind to be Your Friend. It is ready for purchase now along with the PDF of the work book. Thank you to Matt Stott (of Soul Tour) who put in several hours of editing to produce a quality resource for you all.
M L R Update filming in 2019
We are also saying goodbye to DVD’s so I am planning on re-filming the My Life Rulz User Guide which comes with the Children’s Book. I plan to have this available on our You Tube Channel by the middle of the year.
I continue to receive feedback on the resources and material from counsellors, parents, teachers, chaplains and the like, here is one I have received………
Our Kids Church Program for 2018 at Samford Valley Community Church was based on Joan Koskela and David Riddell’s “My Life Rulz” material. It has been a huge success and a very powerful resource to help replace negative thought patterns (stinking thinking) with God’s freeing truths. It has not just been impacting for the kids but also for the leaders, families and myself! I love how this program gives a very practical way to shed light on how Scripture can be incorporated into daily life to help kids (and anyone really who wishes to apply these principles), in relating to others and in coping with life’s challenges. This in turn helps to build self esteem and healthy confidence so is a very empowering program.
My kids, families and leaders have loved the journey through the 10 rules and have picked up some very useful relationship building skills and coping strategies along the way and most importantly of all, have come into a closer and more meaningful relationship with God. It is a huge blessing when we can shape the lives of the next generation with Godly principles and impart into them truth that sets them free. The world can convolute young minds and as teachers and pastors it is our duty of care to give them good mental, emotional and spiritual nourishment and balance. The “My Life Rulz” Program does just that!
I want to take this opportunity to thank Joan and David for this awesome resource, it was a real privilege, honour and blessing to have been part of facilitating this program! Sonia, Children’s Church Ministry.
Looking for a PhD topic, longitudinal study?
Are there any potential researchers who might be interested in doing their doctorate in the area of “student well-being” and the effectiveness of implementing the My Life Rulz program into a school. We have a Christian College in the northern Gold Coast region willing to be part of a research project. They intend implementing the My Life Rulz program in 2019. Please email me if you are interested and I will connect you to the Coordinator.
On a Personal Note
It has been a privilege running training workshops and schools for people this year. It is also, always, an honour to counsel with people who want their lives to work better. It is trustworthy people who put their hand up for help when they strike some trouble.
I have had a few challenges this year, which has given me the opportunity to walk through disappointment, futility and making some new truth coaches for myself. Firstly, a couple of incidences in Uganda, then my big cyber fraud and identity theft issue. A few months later money being taken from my accounts and the incredibly frustrating process of dealing with providers, government departments and ombudsmans.
I also completely lost my ability to smell and taste because I used a nasal spray for more than 3 days (didn’t read all the instructions and wasn’t warned in the Pharmacy). The last time I tasted and smelt was on the 2nd September! But, the Kingdom of God is more than eating and drinking! I also have 60 years of memory to draw on. In the last month I have had some slight smell and taste at times so I am believing for some improvement – GREAT improvement! Thank you to the many people who are praying for me, it is really lovely to feel cared for and loved in that way.
As Rule 2 in My Life Rulz says – NOW is the time to be happy, now is the time to adjust. Who knows what tomorrow will bring – today is the time to sing! Don’t postpone your happiness until all your ‘ducks line up’.
Have a wonderful holiday break, recharge the batteries and embrace your loved ones.
